dispatch worker

I ended up working here in 2002, when the shipment was looking for a substitute for maternity leave. However, at that time this factory in Naantali was still known as Protopaja. Before coming to Protopaja, I worked in a paint department in another company and I actually ended up here through acquaintances. When my fixed-term employment ended, I got a permanent job and we are still on that path and in the same tasks here.

My duties include shipping, i.e. I pack products for customers, send domestic and foreign orders, and handle surface treatment orders. Sometimes I also transport the products myself for surface treatment, hardening, and sometimes to the customer. If needed, I may sometimes help elsewhere in the production in various work phases.

I work mostly alone, but during the day I cooperate with another employee from the dispatch and production team leaders. I also collaborate with production planning and sales on a daily basis.

This job requires persistence and stress tolerance, because things happen and situations sometimes change quickly. You have to be able to concentrate and do many things at the same time. Reaction speed and calm nerves are a trump card. Every customer is important and in this job you must be able to be flexible.

Personally, I also enjoy being busy. I can honestly say that I like my job and my duties. The variability of the days makes this interesting. Every day is something different, although the basic tasks remain. With the acquisitions, we had to learn a lot of new things and it is also great to notice that it is starting to do well in these new things, such as for example with the new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). In my work, I get a good feeling when things have fallen into place, good communication and progress. When at the end of the day I have delivered the right amount of products and on time to the customer.

In my opinion, working in the metal industry is not rocket science, so feel free to apply if someone is wondering if the metal industry would be suitable for them. The work environment, at least in this workplace, goes against all common preconceived notions. Working is cool, the factory is bright and the premises are in good order.
